The butterfly valve body is the main pressure-bearing and structural component of a butterfly valve. It typically features a short cylindrical design with a precision-machined internal circular flow passage, which accommodates the butterfly disc and ensures proper alignment, rotational clearance, and stable operation. Upper and lower shaft holes (or bearing housings) are provided to support the valve stem and transmit torque, enabling the disc to rotate smoothly within a 0–90° operating range.

Depending on installation requirements, the valve body ends can be designed as wafer-type, flanged, or lug-type connections to suit different piping systems. In terms of materials, commonly used options include gray cast iron, ductile iron, cast steel, and stainless steel grades such as CF8 and CF8M. For corrosive or severe service conditions, duplex stainless steel or special corrosion-resistant alloys may also be selected to ensure long-term reliability.

During operation, the valve body not only withstands internal pressure and temperature from the pipeline medium but also maintains precise coordination between the sealing elements (seat and disc) to ensure effective shut-off or flow regulation. Its compact structure and streamlined flow passage result in low flow resistance, making it particularly suitable for large-diameter pipelines and applications with limited installation space.
