Wafer Type Butterfly Valve, 1.4469 / 1.4529 Disc

Wafer type butterfly valve with lever operator, which can be retrofitted to a worm gear head, pneumatic actuator or electric actuator as required. The valve disc is made of duplex stainless steel EN 1.4469 (GX2CrNiMoN26-7-4) and EN 1.4529 (X1NiCrMoCuN25-20-7), featuring excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking, especially in high‑chloride and harsh working conditions. Using such high‑performance duplex stainless steel discs effectively enhances corrosion resistance and service life, ensuring stable operation and reducing maintenance costs, making it essential for applications in marine, chemical and oil & gas industries.

The wafer type butterfly valve is a commonly used quarter turn rotary valve in fluid control systems, with a simple and compact structure that can efficiently achieve flow regulation and shut-off. Its working principle is simple: the valve disc rotates 90 degrees inside the valve body, opening parallel to the flow direction to reduce resistance, and closing perpendicular to the flow direction to seal and prevent leakage. This valve comes with a manual handle as standard and can be modified into a turbine head, pneumatic or electric actuator according to requirements, to meet the control needs of different scenarios.

A key advantage lies in its valve disc made of duplex stainless steel EN 1.4469 (GX2CrNiMoN26-7-4) and EN 1.4529 (X1NiCrMoCuN25-20-7), high-performance materials engineered for harsh corrosive environments. Composed of austenitic and ferritic dual phases, these materials combine austenitic stainless steel’s toughness and weldability with ferritic stainless steel’s high strength and corrosion resistance, outperforming ordinary stainless steels. 1.4469 (UNS S31803) has 22% chromium, 5-6% nickel, and 3% molybdenum, offering excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking (SCC), especially in high-chloride environments like seawater and chemical brine. It boasts a minimum tensile strength of 620 MPa and yield strength of 450 MPa, withstanding high pressure and wear. 1.4529 (UNS N08926), a super duplex steel with 6-7% molybdenum and higher nitrogen, excels in extreme conditions such as acidic media and high-temperature chloride solutions, maintaining stability without rust or degradation.

Wafer type butterfly valve is widely applied in marine engineering, chemical processing, oil gas exploration, and wastewater treatment—industries where fluids often contain corrosive components. Choosing 1.4469/1.4529 discs is essential: ordinary stainless steels (e.g., 304, 316L) easily suffer corrosion, leading to valve failure, leakage, safety hazards, and increased maintenance costs. These duplex steels extend valve service life, reduce downtime, and ensure reliable operation, making them ideal for harsh industrial fluid control.
